Good Evening all,
Long time searcher first time I have had a problem that I couldn't find the answer for.
I have had to restore a very large SQL database from backup and I have sent it to a different server as I can't place it directly back over the top as it is a very active database (luckily I only need a few non-active tables from that database as a whole).
That said I was going through the options and realised some 7 hours into the restore that I accidentally sent it to an instance rather than a specific database. I'm loathed to cancel the job now as it is half way through however I don't want to get to the end and find I can't access this database somehow. So if I am better off cancelling and starting again then thats a pain but i will do.
Once the restore is complete will I be able to access this database even though it is sent to an instance that doesn't exist?
I have checked the network traffic between the servers and there is definitely data flowing between the two I just can't find the file(s) that are open on the recieveing server to try and verify that I will be able to get the data.
Any help is much appreciated.
Backup Exec 12.5, Windows Server 2003, SQL 2005 if it makes any difference.
(And yes we are in need of some software updates!)
