I've been trying to get email notifications working in Backup Exec 2010 R3, running under Windows Server 2008 R2. It worked before with my old email address (sort of) but I recently changed the SMTP settings because I got a new email address to use at work.
I have the recipient setup (i.e. me) with the correct email address entered, and I'm pretty sure I've got the correct SMTP settings for the email provider (1&1). Also we decided to setup a new email address dedicated to the same server we're running Backup Exec on, purely for event notifications (I've setup email notifications for other things on that server using the same settings and these work just fine). I've tried retyping the password a few times as well as the username/'from' email address, and made sure the SMTP server is correct. Their SMTP server works with one of 3 different ports depending on what security you want (ports 25 and 587 I believe use TLS, 465 I think uses SSL), and I tried each of them of them in turn. But nothing seems to come through from Backup Exec, I don't get any error messages displayed after pressing the 'Test' button, it just says the message is queued for sending.
I followed instructions (can't remember where exactly, I think it was somewhere on this forum) to capture a 'realtime' log using the 'SGMon.exe' process. I changed the port number each time before capturing to see what would happen, then saved a separate log for each attempt in case it was an issue with the port number. I then tried looking up the so-called Notify Return Code for each event but I couldn't find anything in the Synmantec knowledge base (perhaps I missed something?). Therefore I've decided to post the logs here in the hope that someone might know what the codes mean. The only thing I changed inbetween each log captured was the port number, all other settings remained the same.
