Hi.
I use Windows Server Backup on a Windows 2008 server to do a full backup to a SAN on a shared folder. I then backup this folder on a WIndows Server 2003 using Backup Exec 2010, writing to a HP SCSI LTO3 tape drive. The size of the backup is about the same each time, but starting last weekend the compression rate changed from 2.7:1 to 1.5:1. As a consequence there is not enough space on the tape.
I have run HP LTT tape tests, all passed. I have run a cleaning tape, but the error count is (and was) low. I also updated the firmware on the drive. Backup Exec is also up to date. The compression in Backup Exec is set to Hardware if avaliable, otherwise software. On the properties page of the drive, hardware compression is enabled.
Any suggestions?
