I need a solution

BE 2010 R3 on Windows Server 2008 R2. I wonder if this is config issue. On all our server backups, there are 4 or more (sometimes 7) 4.1GB files. Our backup scheme is full with incrementals every other day. We use to use 20/40 DLT and could fit a server backup on 1 DLT (3 servers x 20GB = ~60GB). The same 3 servers with their full, incremental backups has ballooned to ~1TB. I know the size will vary some due to the software running on said 3 servers, i still suspect total size to be ~500GB. These backups are server software only (SLES11 and Windows 2008), no user personal data on these backups. our total drive size = 196GB. Maybe we should be using a different scheme like full/differential or maybe i have some bad config on the current full/incremental which results is almost 1 TB of backups? I would be happy to provide any config info if needed. How do i cut down on the size of these backups?
