Hi,
We currently work with backup-exec 2012. We currently backup our data (+- 1 TB) on disk and on TAPE (full and differantial).
The disk is being backuped on the LAN, the TAPES are being collected by courrier and returned after a few weeks.
We have to renew our backupserver this year due to expired warranty.
My question is this :
ATM we have a networkspeed of 8Mbits/s. At this rate it would take aprox 35h to backup 1 TB of data (on LAN !). But this is for a full backup, not a differantial backup.
I am wondering, since we have to renew our server, is it still usefull to work with tapes? Are there other ways/methods out there?
Our networkspeed will be crancked up within 2 years. But by my calculations we would need 24Mbits/s to backup our Full TB whithin a acceptable time range (12h). Is there a way to mirror your data ?
My idea was to set up a second server somewhere in one of our remote offices and push our backup towards that location.
Then we wouldn't have to worry about the tapes etc. If our server on the LAN crashes for whatever reason, we could backup and work from the server on the remote office.
Could someone give me some info on these topics or point me towards the right direction.
Any suggestions are welcome. I'm trying to explorer on this subject to widen my knowledge.
