Can I run Backupexec 2012 Server on a VM

I need a solution

As the title says - I am in the middle of a quandry. Situation is;

Site running 2 * Windows 2008 R2 servers with Hyper-V. Servers are in a workgroup with a collection of VMs on each. Server1 is also running Backupexec 2012. Backups are of all VMs and hosts to a SAS attached LTO tape drive.

Due to the configuration of Hyper-V the customer has no failover capability. The servers have no shared storage either. Only solution to this is to upgrade the physical hosts to Windows Server 2012 R2 and to enable failover migration between the 2 hosts.

This leads me to the main issue. If I upgrade the host OS then Backupexec will be installed on an unsupported OS and will most likely not work. My options are to find a separate physical server to run the backups from (hardware is hard to get hold of) or to install a Windows 2008 R2 VM and run the backups through this.

My question is - can Backupexec Server 2012 be successfully run from a Hyper-V VM and is this a supported configuration as far as Symantec is concerned?
