Backing up Exchange Databases from a DAG

I need a solution

Hi,

We currently have a DAG with two CAS servers (EX1 and EX2), two database servers (EX3 and EX4) and one off-site server (EX5) that has all roles installed in case of a DR scenario. There are two Mailbox Databases, both currently mounted on EX4, with EX3 getting preference if that fails over. Backup Exec sometimes throws theese errors when backing up the mailbox databases:

Set type : Backup
Set status : Completed
Set description :
Resource name : \\DAGname.domain.net\Microsoft Information Store\Mailbox Database 2
Logon account : System Logon Account
Encryption used : None
Error : e0000f04 - The media server could not connect to the remote computer. The remote computer may not be running the Backup Exec
Remote Agent for Windows/Linux. Make sure that the correct version of the Remote Agent is installed and running on the target computer.
Agent used : Yes
Advanced Open File Option used : No

I noticed that although we don't back up anything on EX5 as this is taken care of by our hosting centre, it *is* still a DAG member and as such not having the Remote Agent installed, causes Backup Exec problems communicating with the DAG. I have installed the Remote Agent on EX5 and now Backup Exec seems to be communicating with the DAG again.

My one Question is: where will Backup Exec pull Database backups from? If it pulls them from whatever DAG member has them mounted at the time, we won't have a problem. However, if there is a chance it could pull backups of the databases from EX5 this is a serious issue as it would max out bandwidth, compromise our replication and, needless to say, cause the backup job to fail.
