Backup Exec 2010 R2 - Final error: 0xe000fed1 - A failure occurred querying the Writer status

We are running Backup Exec 2010 R2 Version 13.0 Rev. 4164 (32 bit) on 2003 R2 SP2

We are attempting to backup the system state of a Server 2008 R2 server but are having the following errors:

V-79-57344-65233 - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "\\SERVERNAME\System?State".  I have checked and the BE VSS writer is not installed on the server we are trying to back up.

Any suggestions to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated
