I performed a "duplcate" job of an Exchange backup from tape to a NAS device as I was having a problem doing a GRT of some mailbox items from the tape (it was not "staging" properly). The" dupicate" job completed and verified just fine and I see the "IMG" directory on the destination NAS. When I try to perform a resore job, I can see the entry for the date of the backup job I duplicated, but when I try to browse the mailbox stroe, I get the following error:
[SYMANTEC][Backup Exec Catalog Driver] (The directory or file was not found, or could not be accessed.)
I have manually run an inventory and catlog job on the destination NAS device and they run successfully. I have run "fltmc" on the command prompt to confirm "VirtFile" is there. None of this has helped.
1.) Is there somthing ese I can try?
2.) Because the "IMG" directory is there, does that mean the whole Exchange DB is there, and if nothing else, I should be able to mount it in a Recovery Storage Group in Exchange?

I'm using Backup Exec 2010 R2. I'm trying to restore a users home directory. When I do a restore from the last full backup it works great. I'm then tryng to restore the subsequent incremental backups and it continually fails with this error message.
Error category : Security Errors Error : e0008488 - Access is denied.

My backup server is Windows 2008 R2 64Bit and so is the server I'm trying to restore too. I thought it might be an issue with the permissions on the directory I was trying to restore too, so I created a new directory and gave the account doing the restore explicit ownership and the I get the same issue....I can do a restore from the full backup, no problems, but the restore from the incremental backup gives the same error message. It starts to run, says it copies about 58K and then times out around 7 minutes with the error message and nothing copied. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm new to Symantec and was wondering if someone out there could help me out. I started a new position and am trying to understand how the previous backup administrator architected the environment. More specifically, I am trying to figure out the logic on how a media server is selected to write to a device when the device is shared between two media servers.
Here's the scenario. We are backing up data from servers and writing them to a dedupe appliance at the local site, however it is using a remote media server to write the data to the dedupe appliance. So, it is passing the data over the WAN twice before it lands on the dedupe appliance. From what I can tell the local media server and the remote media server both can see the dedupe appliance (destination).
I am trying to understand why it is not using the local media server if it can also see the dedupe appliance.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

But, the Symantec stil copying all video from old to new that's why the duration of backup is more than one day. I already created the incremental policy but still the same. Let me know if this options is correct

While I wait for a support call back, I figure that I would post in the forum for support. I've been backing up a SQL server with BackupExec to data deduplication disk storage. Now I want to restore a Full Backup of a database from a "successfull backup" and I get the error:
Final error: 0xe00084e7 - No data error reading from media
Final error category: Backup Media Errors
An unknown error occured on device "Deduplication disk storage 0001:1". V-79-57344-34023 - No data error reading from media.
I'm using the Backup Exec 3600 R2 appliance, it's showing all the disks are fine. I've run the Inventory & Catalog process which completes successfully as well run all the updates. Backup are still working fine, but it seems like something is amiss when restoring the data. I'm choosing the options to restore the SQL database to a redirected server. I'm suspecting something along the lines that it's having difficulty grabbing that single database out of the datadedupe backup, but I have no proof of that. As a test, from another backup (of the file system ), I've restored a single file to the same redirected server successfully.

I have had a fairly unique request from a customer who wants to ensure that they always maintain 2 copies of each server to disk at all times, despite the fact that some servers are backed up very infrequently, whereas others are backed up nightly.
They currently have version 2010, and we are about to upgrade them to BE2012, so I thought I could better leverage the 'per server' approach, however I'm unclear on how I'd setup the media pools. The customer wants to maintain 2 copies, because they don't want to be caught short should the backups be in the process of overwriting older backups. Ideally they want each server to overwrite only it's 2 copies (oldest first) if that's possible. Any thoughts? Sounds like I might have to setup separate disk devices, media pools & so forth but I was wondering if there was a better way. Let me know what you think.

I am trying to restore a Sharepoint page but it fails within few seconds with the error that no remote agent was found. But that is impossible because the backup jobs run successful.
The curious thing is that BE2012 is trying to find the agent on the resource and not on the Sharepoint server.
What is wrong?
One more thing I found out: If I go to the backup sets it is not showing me the backup I want to restore on 30th January. I clicked to expand and it shows nothing.
And yes, I already reinstalled the agent, restarted both servers / services. Deleted and added the server in the BE console again. Nothing helped.
Could it be that the backup is corrupted?

If I have 4 physical servers (2 Windows 2003 and 2 Windows 2008 SQL Server) which I want back up, should I use 1 BE Server (and install it on any machine), 2 BE Agents for Applications and Databases (SQL Server) and 2 BE Agents for Windows (Windows 2003 Servers)?
Or I made mistake?

I am getting the above mentioned error while backing up the VDR appliance (which is a Linux machine / Non Windows VM), i have checked on the Symantec support website and its all mentioning that Backup Exec should be installed on Physical server and we got that installed on Physical Server only.
Also, i have done the similar backup earlier and it ran successfull with out any errors and i am doing the similar backup as new backup job.
Note: for this i have scratched the destination media used for this backup job which is used previously and put that in scratch Media, so that Tape can be picked up from this Scratch Media set and put in to the the Destined Media set specified in this Current backup Job.
I have disabled GRT for this VM backup job and ran the backup, it still doesn't run, also i did tried restarting the backup exec services and restarted the backup Exec server, still no luck.
Please let me know if i am missing anything on this.

I have setup the backup exec for a customer and the customer wants the backup exec to be deleting the full and incremental backup every two weeks when the policy is configuring under the storage there is option to specify the number of weeks there. can anyone help me to achieve this

I have DLO 2010R3 for backing up files in users' laptop in my company. The backup selection I created in the profile include the Lotus Note archive file also. Some employees have been working in my company since long time ago and definitely that he/she has his/her a very big email archives in his/her laptop.
My problem now is these users have a big Lotus Note's archive file in the folder that DLO will back it up and make his/her overall quota is full and cannot be backed up again in the next DLO schedule. So, I have an idea to solve this by separate the DLO profile 1) for backing up general files in users' laptop & 2) for backing up only Lotus Note's archive file only (separated storage location from 1)
So, is it possible that I can create two DLO profiles to associate with one domain user?
