Easy Daily Backup's to Disk Storage??

I need a solution

Okay I've been working with Backup Exec 2010 all day and cannot find a way to create simple daily backups that overwrite weekly.  I know this software can do it but since it's designed for the most complex of backup's trying to create something simple is convuluted it seems.  This is what I want to do and hopefully somebody can point me in the right direction.

I would like to do a daily backup to network storage for a Windows Server 2003 for one week and then overwrite the file.  I would like there to be 1 file for each day and it would be nice if the file was labeled something easy to recognize like say the date of the back up. So for instance:

Folder on NAS is server name DED-DC01 in that folder are the daily backup files:

20140723.bkf
20140722.bkf
20140721.bkf
20140720.bkf
20140719.bkf
20140718.bkf
20140717.bkf

So then tomorrow when I look at the folder 20140717.bkf will be gone and at the top would be 20140724.bkf.

Currently I have a daily backup running but the folder is all jacked up there appears to be multiple files per server and they are labeled B2D000145.bkf or some such nonsense.

Any assistance would be super great!

I need a solution

I have a strange problem, I have contacted Symantec support and they told me that there are known issues with the new version of Symantec Backup Exec 2014 and my best bet was to post it on the forums or keep an eye out for updates.. which I don’t understand… but anyway.. so im hoping someone can help me...

my setup,

OS is windows 2012 R2 and Exchange 2013

Symantec exec 2014 ver. 14.1 rev 1786 (64bit) - Trial

LTO4 tape.

the backups keep failing with an access denied error, I have tried deselecting the file paths in question but it still fails.

I cant find the option to disable this virtual conversion or sdr…. I don’t even need these components…

I need a solution

Current situation:

- Hyper-V cluster named X with SAN storage

- cluster is formed by 2 servers: X1 and X2

- server X1 and X2 have Windows 2012 R2 Standard as OS

- 10 VM's on SAN

- 6 VM's on local HDD of X1 or X2

- Symantec Backup Exec 2012 is installed into another server from our AD. That server run Windows 2008 R2 Standard as OS

- backup agent is installed into: X1 server, X2 server, all 16 VM's (10 having virtual HDD on SAN, 6 having virtual HDD hosted locally on X1 or X2)

Problem:

- when I try to backup VM's I see only 6 VM's (all the VM's having virtual HDD hosted locally on X1 or X2) and the rest of VM's didn't appear on backup properties screen.

What is wrong or what I setup wrong ??

Backups Failing; Media Offline; Online option grayed out

I need a solution

Our organisation is using Backup Exec 2010 R3 on a Windows 2008 R2 Server Standard set up.  The system is fully patched. Our backups are going to tape and an external drive.  Both devices are showing up in the devices tab, and are visible.  Neither is showing as paused, nor are they showing any immediate warning signals.  I also tested the log in credentials for all our backup jobs.  But the backups have been failing consistently for a few weeks now.  The errors are all coming up as the media being offline.

When I checked the media, I clicked on the Devices tab, and under the General Tasks, it shows both devices have the "online" checkbox as checked, but grayed out.  No matter what I do (pause, disable and re-enable, etc.) they remain grayed out.

Recently we had some problems with the DC (where the Backup Exec is hosted), and it was rebooted a few times.  Could this be the problem?  Any help anyone could offer would be great.  Thanks in advance!

GRT fails on VHDX - Windows 2012

I need a solution

Hello All,

I have a Windows 2012 server that has a VHDX that is 5.2TB in size, when the back completes I see the following warning in regards to the backup: Virtual machine volume is in a format that is not supported by this version of the Windows Operating System and therefore is not supported by Granular Recovery Technology (GRT).  Granular restores cannot be performed for this volume.

Problem is, I really need to be able to use GRT as this is our file server and I don't want to have to restore the whole VHDX to restore a single file.

I took a look at this article: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH210102 and according to this I should not have a problem.

Any suggestion or solutions would be greatly appericated.

Thanks

If I have a file server with 10TB of file data and the Backup Exec Windows Agent 2014 installed & a backup server with Backup Exec 2014 and Deduplication Option 2014 & I'm going to use CLIENT-SIDE deduplication, what hardware is required and/or recommended for the backup server? I can calculate what I will need for the media storage, but what about the deduplication volume?

Thanks again,

I need a solution

I have configured a Backup job which does backup one Server on BE Local Disk. I have set Retention Preiod for 2 Days, and Life Cycle 2 days. but its not overwriting the old backup sets.

Since I am really short in sotrage, I want following...

Option A >

Day 1  >  Full Backup Set 1
Day 2  >  Overwrite Backup Set 1

Incremental Backup failing on 1 Exchange Database

I need a solution

Hello,

i'm encountering a very strange issue if you could help me out.

I have Backup Exec 2014 installed on windows server 2012 r2, i'm using it to backup a lot of stuff. Everything works fine except for my Exchange-DAG  backup. here are the details.

* Backup Exec is using a domain admin account which is also a member of Exchange organisation management group.

* I have 2 Exchange 2010 MBX servers installed on windows 2008 r2. An other 2 servers for clients acces but those are not included in the backup selection.

* My Exchange DAG include 5 Databases with over 1000 mailboxes in total.

* A weekly full backup of the the Exchange DAG is working fine and cleaning logs without issues.

* All 5 databases are not using circular logging.

* A daily incremental backup is failling everytime on the last database with the error

"The Logon account that was provided does not have valid credentials. Ensure that the user name and password are correct, and then try again."

--> Just after this error, the Backup exec account gets locked and the following jobs fail untill the lock on the account expire which is after 30mn accoring to our domain GPO.

--> I tried running the job at many different times of the day and i encountered the same issue.

Is there any additional previleges that i need to add to the account so i can execute incremental Backups ? i cannot afford to do full backup everyday.

Thank you for your help.

I will try to convert it using VMWare, what version should I use? I The host OS would be Windows SBS 2008.

Thanks,.

I need a solution

Hi.

I got a server with only 2x 300 GB 10K SAS, 8 GB RAM & Quad Core CPU @ 2.4 Ghz only.

Attached to it is a Dell PV124T LTO6 SAS Auto Loader with 8 Magazine slot.

Full backup of four (4) server will only be around 2 TB (uncompress).

Backups should be written to tapes directly.

Can I configure my backup jobs this way

Daily Backups (Incremental or differential), retention is 7 days

Weekly backups (Full), retention is 4 weeks (28 days)

Monthly backups (Full), retention is 12 months.

My tapes should be dedicated to each type of backups.

Can I configure it this way: Each day must be assigned a slot.

Daily, Weekly & Monthly tapes should not be mixed. If a tape is used for Monday then it should only be used for Monday

If a tape is used for Full weekly backups on Saturday, no other backup data from other days should be appended to it.

For Slot 1 to 5, I plan just to leave the tapes on the autoloader.

For Slot 6, I will remove the tape weekly and replace with a different tape each week. There will be four (4) tapes assigned for weekly backups.

For Slot 7, I will remove the tape after a full backup that will be executed once a month (last Sunday of the Month). There will be twelve (12) tapes

Monday --> Slot 1 (Daily incrementals), Retention 7 days

Tuesday --> Slot 2 (Daily incrementals), Retention 7 days

Wed ---> Slot 3 (Daily incrementals), Retention 7 days

Thursday ---> Slot 4 (Daily incrementals), Retention 7 days

Friday ---> Slot 5 (Daily incrementals), Retention  7 days

Saturday ---> Slot 6 (Full weekly), Retention 28 days

Sunday ---> Slot 7 (Full monthly), Once a month, retention 12 Months

I would be open to suggestions and recommendations.

I'm also considering for Monday to Friday backups I will allocate around two (2) tapes. Incremental backups will be written to it daily. Backup data will be appended each day. So instead of having 5 tapes Monday to Friday, I will just use two tapes with a total of 5 TB capacity.

Thanks,

Paul

Job History with Media written export/reportting ?

I need a solution

Previous versions of Backup Exec allowed me to copy this and paste it as text in to excel. I would also like to add a  column at the end and output the tape bar code that each job wrote to. What would be the easiest way to accomplish this? I would like to filter the results for all the full backups that ran over the weekend.
