Hi all.....

I am in the process of implementing Backup Exec Hyper-V agent on a 3 node server 2008 R2 cluster. Obviously I can back up a whole virtual server  by selecting it under Microsoft Hyper-V HA Virtual Machines. However, the question is, for virtual servers where I am interested in protecting the system drive and not necessarily the data drives is it possible to back up the individual .vhd files from under the appropriate cluster shared volume - e.g. c:\clusterstorage\volume1\server1.vhd (All the cluster sgared volumes appear under the cluster name in the selection tree).

I need a solution

We are seeing issues regarding backing up Exchange servers which are on DAG via VMWare where the snapshot is not removed duing the backup and subsequently the server ends up running on the snapshot and causing serious performance issues on production system.

Has anyone seen this?

We have backup exec 2012 - run backups of the virtual machines via vcentre (standard exchange install is fine - only an issue with the servers which are members of a DAG)

We have a seperate job for the DAG backup which is fine. It just seems to be the backup of the machines via vcentre.

This is causing major performance issues.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

I need a solution

Hi,

Now i have not used backup Exec in years but now having to use Backup Exec 2010. Now to the problem, I have a tape library and that has two drives I use two tapes for the daily. Now one of the jobs runs for 8 hours the other runs for  1 - 3 hours (both drives are used). Now i have set another job to run two hours after with a time window of 3 hours and it keeps on saying missed window. Now the append status on the dailys is showing 1 day. So my thought is that it should take the tape that thats been used for the 1-3 hour job and append to that tape as the other tape and drive is in use ?

Hello all.

I have a little problem, I installed BE 2012 with EV 10 Agent, in the job backup, I can see the EV server, when I run the job it finish with success, the report said the data is 70Kb, but in the EV Store, there's more 400GB, I don't know what is the problem, anyone can help me?

Hello,

I have problem on  backup I have backup server windows server 2008 R2 standard on Vmware 4.1 and I use Backup exec 2010 R2 and Use HP autoloader (1x8 G2 AUTOLOADER) connected via SAS cable HP Proliant DL380 G6

and the SAS Card is SC44GE Host Bus Adapter.

The problem is job rate is very slow and performance is very bad and I got this error message

"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\RaidPort0."

I tried to update drivers for autoloader , remove it from backup exec and device manger then add them again but no chance.

 

Could you please support me  I tried many thing but no chance

Hi,

When the environment check runs it throws up a warning saying:

An instance of Microsoft SQL 2000 was found that is not updated to Service Pack 3a.

An instance of Microsoft SQL Server was found that is not updated to the correct service pack. Using this SQL Server instance with Backup Exec may cause errors. To install Backup Exec successfully, upgrade this SQL Server to Service Pack 3a, or select another instance.

I am trying to install it on a Win 2008 R2 server running SQL Server 2008 Express. 

What can be done to rectify this error message?

I need a solution

When we boot our MMS the DeDuplication Engine Service stays "Starting" and prevents logon to the server.

We cannot stop the service, and a reboot just repeats the problem.

BackupExec 2012 and Windows 2008 Rs 64 Bit.

Hi Guys

I am looking to see if anyone can recommend a cloud provider solution for backing up.

I am trying to gather requirments as we do not have a set DR office and physical space for hardware is restrictive.

We do have local storage for daily backups , but I want to duplicate the fulls to the cloud for compliance within my company.

If anyone is using such a service I would love to hear your thoughts.

I need a solution

I'm facing a phenomen, which I can't explain and understand - maybe somebody can help me ?!

Problem:

We're using DeDuplication for the firststage-backup, afterwards the data is copied to external media - this time USB-disks.
During the copy-job from the Dedup-folder onto USB-disks (one active) the speed is between 950 and 1250 MB/min - not very fast but ok.
The USB-Disks are attached via USB3 and only one concurrent job os allowed to be written onto the USB-disks.

Now the strange thing starts:
When a second job starts while another is running, the speed drops to 250-400 MB/min.
But the second job can't really start as long as the first one isn't finished (because only 1 concurrent write is allowed to the usb-disc), so imho it shouldn't take any performance from the system.
 

Why does the speed drops, when the second job doesn't really do anything (because the target-device is blocked)?
 

Environment:

BE2012 with actual updates. The hardware is a HP DL180G6, CPU: E5606, 12 GB RAM. 5 SAS 1 TB Harddisks attached to an HP SmartArray P410 with 256 MB Cache and battery. CPU usage below 50%, RAM-usage ~ 50%.

 

Comparison to normal B2D-job:

A copy-job from a "normal" B2D-device (located on the same disk-channel) runs with 2.000-2.500 MB/min (which means the disc and usb-channel isn't the bottleneck). So the Dedup-device takes about 50%performance for rehydrating the data - which is "as designed and ok.

 

Any idea ?

Hi All

I need to get a backup solution to secure the following:

Windows 2008 (32 bit)
SQL 2005
SQL 2008

I was thinking of Backup Exec 2012 for Small Business as this has the SQL agent, but will it run on Windows 2008 Standard (32bit), and also will it allow me to backup/restore the two SQL systems?  The 2008 is the free express version

I'm looking for a solution. After the failure of our tape library HP MSL 2024 (tape drive was replaced), I began to receive messages in the Event manager:

34326 - Catalog index database

34338 - ODBC access error. Possible lost connection to database or unsuccessful access to catalog index in the database.

I did not notice the warnings, and and the job continues to run on schedule.

After that i got some new errors:

I need a solution

I have a MS Server 2008, SQL 2012 server I've been backing up for a while now.  Basically, I configured a Full backup job to run nightly followed directly by an Incremental job to fullfill the Logs backup requirement.  These backups go to a virtual tape library then get dumped to tape automatically after an eject of the virtural tape occurs.  So, I set the Inc job to eject the tape.  The requirement here being I need a nightly full backup to disk, then tape.  Problem is... Just the other day, the Incremental job just won't run anymore, no error, doesn't even show up in the log even though it's clearly scheduled.  Is there some unstated rule in BE2012 that it doesn't run a second Incremental stage if a Full backup occurs?  I'd expect an error or a skipped job message to at least indicate what happened.  It's just odd.  Like I said, it WAS working then just quit last week.  I even deleted the old job and created a new to see if that was the issue with no luck.  Anyone have any ideas?

I installed recently a Symantec Backup Exec 2012 on Oracle server, to backup the oracle database.

But i have a error message when i run a job :"The job failed with the following error: This server name is not in Backup Exec server's authentication list. Enter the server's fully qualified domain name and logon account into the Backup Exec server's authentication list. Server names in the authentication list are case-sensitive".

I work with a local account , i don't have any AD .

I am running backup exec 10r and upgrading to backup exec 2012 standard.  My question is: version 10r is installed on the C partition and I would to install 2012 on a different partition can i do this and policies on 10r will be imported to 2012 version?

Hi All,

I have never used the BE 2012 SDR to recover a complete server before.  I do run an SDR backup on a few of my servers though.  I have a test box I am trying to restore a SDR backup to.  I have made the recovery boot disk from within BE and created the .ISO file to burn a CD disk image.

The recovery disk boots and installs and starts the network drivers and I can see the BE media server.

I can see the recovery point on the media server I want to recover. I can select that recovery point and it brings me to the disk layout.

This is where I have trouble.  First the disk layout (Volumes) screen that shows first is blank. Under Preview I show my unformatted disk with no partitions.

So it doesn't matter if I check the box that says erase the partitions and replace or not.

If I go into advanced disk layout, it shows me what I believe is my orginal disk layout for the server I am trying to recover.  I can create partitions on the disk layout there.

When I return to the volumes screen it is still blank and I can not click "next" as it is greyed out.

I thought well maybe it doesn't have my raid controller driver loaded.  So I went out to the first screen and to utilitites and loaded the specific RAID controller drivers. Then went through the wizard steps again until I get to the disk congiuration, and volumes show blank still. If I go back into advanced I can again create and format partitions, but still no way to click next on the disk config screen to go further.

Since I have never run through this procedure before, I feel I must be missing some little thing that would let me continue.  But honestly I don't really know what to expect for any of these screens.

What I think I should expect in the disk config screen (I think it has been refered to as the quick view) is what my disk currently looks like.  This would then make the check box to erase what ever is showing and replace it with what the recover needs.  But in every case it doesn't show anything in this view.

Have I missed something some place?

Any help will be appreciated.

Full backup B2D on friday at 8pm (Keep for 4 days option) than duplicate Full to Tape

In BackupSets page I see Expiration Date for Storage Disk correctly after 4 days, BUT Expiration Date for Storage Tape after 11 days.

Diff backup B2D from mon-thur at 8pm (Keep for 4 days option) than duplicate Diff to Tape...

 Kindly I have Tape Library MSL 2024 connected to symantec Backup Exec 2012, and i have 24 Tapes (3 TB).
