A quick question... We have an physical server based Exchange 2007 implementation which requires backing up...
However we also want to use Server 2012 R2 file servers on VMware and use the deduplication feature with it...
My conundrum here is I need to upgrade the BE server to 2012 (Or 2012 R2) to support GRT recovery of 2012 deduplication volumes, yet I can't do this because the Exchange 2007 Management Tools are not supported on Server 2012!
So back to my question... are the Management Tools really required?
And by "really required" I mean yes I have read the manual where it says they are needed but it indicates they are really only used to discover resources as opposed to actually being required for either a backup or restore function.
The CDO 1.2.1 software has been updated and appears to be installable on Server 2012 so as this is required for restore this is good to go...
Adding to this I also wonder how the 3600 appliance manages Exchange backups with GRT because I am pretty sure that does not come with the Exchange Management Console either, and there does not appear to be anyway to install them on that either??
