i have a backupexec 2012 sp 3 installed in my enviroment. the is this particular job on a particular drive that the job rate is very slow. it is as slow as 50mb/min. i have an LTO5 tape library with with 2 drives. i have other data being backed up from the same drive as the one with the slow throughput rate and they backup as fast as 500-800mb/min. so my worries is why this particular data on the same drive. i have recreated the policy and also re-installed the remote agent yet no improvement. i have alst spillted the jobs into 2, yet the 2 jobs are backing up at the same rate of 50mb/mins. what would you advise i do? has anyone experience such issue before?

I have reregisterd vss writers but that did not help, tried to run it with AOFO set to automatic and to use Microsoft system provider, tried to do that withot AOFO option, but still same issue.

Have uninstalled BE and installed it back still the same issue.

I have installed Backup Exec 2012 SP4 on my new W2008R2 server, the default account is svc-backup, the Backup Exec services are launched with this account (Media Server Admin, Exchange servers Admin, Domain admin, Exchange Org Admin Exchange Server admin, Backup operator,.. Has an active and visible mailbox,...) BUT it does not work when I try to backup a Databse (a different one from my original 2003 server to avoid conflicts),

Backup Exec Small Business 2012

Currently Backing up several folders on SERVER1 with multiple jobs, working fine.

Setup SERVER2, install agent and test.  All working fine.

Migrate ARCHIVE folder from SERVER1 to SERVER2.

How do edit the ARCHIVE folder job to point at SERVER2 instead of SERVER1, keeping all current settings, backups, etc?

I have been banging my head against the wall for the better part of two days now. Here is my predicament. I am trying to make sure that our backup server can be restored and running with very little downtime from the tapes we use. I turn on all Backup services from the services window and then launch Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3. I then plug in the media which I want to do the restore with and run an inventory of that. The inventory comes back successful so then I go to catalog it. Typically the cataloging gets to be 3-4 mins before it fails.

I looked up a work around for it in which you go in and change the catalogs folder to old and run the catrebuildindex.exe. Then I try and run the catalog again but it fails. This is driving me nuts with the work around not working. Hope someone can provide assistance not only will you help save my sanity but also my hair. Thanks!

I am running two Backup Exec 2014 Servers on same LAN network which are connected with two tape drives separately. Both servers do backup of various windows base servers. I Just wanted to know that is it possibel that these two BE servers can backup each other [For faster recovery of BE server if any one crashes) ?

can Remote agent be installed where BE server is also installed ?

Example:

BE Server1 will backup BE Server2
BE Server2 will backup BE Server1

I'm having the same issue with 2 fresh installations of Backup Exec 2014 with 2 of our clients. Here are the details.

- Fresh Windows server 2012 and Windows server 2012 r2 media servers (default install, i only added .NET framework 3.5, i'm not sure why.....)

- Local SQL instance installed by Backup Exec 2014 installation Wizard in both cases.

- No antivirus agent on media server in both cases.

The problem i'm encountering is that the Backup Exec job engine service crashes unexpectedly since the first day in both cases. 

As a work arround, i configured the service to restart when failed and so far all jobs are working fine since the crash didn't occure when jobs are running but

both times it occured when i was checking jobs history in the management console. here are some errors that i collected from windows event viewer.

I have backup Exec server 2014 running over windows server 2012 R2.

I have created two backup job for backing up Hyper-V 2012 virtual machines.

full backup job and incrementally backup job.

the issue with incrementally backup job as it is backing up th entire virtual machines as the full backup job. 

Small Business Server 2011 - fully patched and freshly rebooted
Backup Exec 2014 Small Business Edition - fresh install

Set up a Friday full job and a Monday-Thursday differential jobs to a set of USB drives that are rotated. The Friday full job sits on 'Discovering Resources' for HOURS. I started the job almost 7 hours ago and it has not backed up a single byte. There is no one on the server, no open files, nothing going on. Resource monitor is very quiet.

Thoughts as to what is going on?

Has anyone had success in BackupExec 2012 or 2014 in backing up via NDMP a NetApp filer running cDOT (Cluster-Mode) 8.2 or higher? We have an open case with support when running 2014+cDOT 8.2.1 where we cannot browse any snapshots and/or files within our volumes when connecting to our filers, something we were able to do with 7-Mode.

I have a Backupexec 2012 Central admin server with Four Backup exec2012 MMS..Backup jobs are working fine and all MMS servers are reporting to CentralAdmin.

I need to Introduce a backupexec 2014 Server which will be my MMS for my Sharepoint 2013 Backups.

The question here is Will i be able to install Backupexec2014 and configure it as a MMS,and to report it to 2012 Central Admin server

Presently i have no plans to upgrade backup exec 2012 Central Admin server.

What is required to achieve this?

My client have a backup exec 2014, wants to backup DAG Microsoft Exchange 2013 via passive node only. I wonder, will backup exec 2014 truncate transaction logs while backup via passive node since the transaction logs only exist in active node? I have not a resource to lab this case, anyone can help me?

I have planned to move the tape from one tape library to another.

In current library, the media set is named as "backup". After changed to new library, can I use new media set name like "fax backup" ??

Otherwise, anything else need before change ?? I already configured same backup schedule as current backup exec.

I currently have a Windows Server 2008 R2 which is running as our media server for Backup Exec 2012.

I was interested in the opinions on recommended steps to perform an upgrade to Windows Server 2012 R2 with Backup Exec 2014?

I've performed many Server in-place upgrades and resolved all subsequent issues (which wasn't many at all).

I'm thinking the best way would be to perform the OS upgrade and then upgrade the Backup Exec 2014 upgrade.

Any and all thoughts appreciated.

I received the following message from backup exec:

Backup Exec failed to connect to one or more virtual machines and was unable to collect the necessary metadata to restore individual application items. You cannot perform GRT-enabled restores of application data from this backup.

Please advise me with the suitable solution knowing that I am using backup exec 2010.

A Full Backup job (BackupExec 2012 SP4) is already running for 2 days since Friday. Normally it is always ready in hours.

I can not choose an option to cancel this job. Double click on the running job shows the following job, a differential backup!

I have a Backupexec 2012 Server running backups to Physical Library and Disk Storage.Recently we had got a HP B6200 Dedplication device which can be configured as a VTL and NAS Device.

Backup jobs when targeted to VTL are much faster,But when i run backups from NAS Share the backups are very slow.

I had configured the share as file server .Is this the correct way?

how do i speedup my backups(The B6200 is having 10G Ethernet connection)

Is there any other specific licenses thet need to be installed on the Media server .

The adminstrator installed backup exec with his account.

The account was deleted.

Backup exec stopped working.

added the administrator back in.

Still backup exec was not working.

Using sql database.

One server,  Backup Exec is on the domain server.

Need to get backup exec running with a new user or old user.

Tried Symantec Backup Agent Utility to change user did not help.

I start Backup Exec 2012 and it asks for user name and password.

Could not connect Backup exec does not seem to running on server

Could not connect to net.tcp://servernam:50104/BEMservice/ServerData.  The connection attempt lasted for a time span of 00:00:02.97.. TCP error code 10031: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 192.168.0.3:50104. (remember this is the server and I am loggen as the new user.  

FIXED

1. Open the Windows services console.
2. Right click on the Backup Exec service failing and choose Properties (This may need to be repeated for several services)
3. On the Log On tab enter the required password and confirm it.
4. Open the Backup Exec Console.
5. On the Connect to media server window click on Services to open the Backup Exec Services Manager.
6. Click on Services credentials.
7. Check the box Change service account information.
8. Enter the correct User name, Domain name and updated password and click Ok.
9. Services will be restarted.  If the services do not start, perform the above 4 steps under "Step 1"
10. On the Backup Exec console go to Network menu and click Logon Accounts.
11. Highlight the default logon account and click Edit.
12. Click on Change Password and update your password.
13. Click OK.

All be services are stopped.

On starting service Backup exec Device and Media service.  Service failed to start. (15) Service Logon Failure.

Same situation here (BE 2010 SP4 on WS 2008 R2).  I would like to upgrade our media server to WS 2012 R2 before installing BE 2014 though.  Is there a way to do a clean installation of the OS and BE 2014, then import the catalogs and an existing Dedupe folder from BE 2010?
