We just moved our tape library from Win 2008 Server running BE2012 to Win 2012 Server running BE2014 last night.
I haven't scratched any of the old tapes. The job is set to overwrite media.

I would like to start testing the new BE2014 solution, I'm currently on BE2012 SP2.
What would be the best way to move forward with the plan.
One of the things I could not find info on... If I build a new win2k8r2x64 and install BE2014 and my current production BE2012 is on another server.
I read in the forums that the agents need updating for BE2014 to work better, but would they still work with BE2012, is there going to be two agents install at the same time, or is the 2014 agent backwards compatible with 2012?
Is there a trial version for the deduplication option?
We never used this before, and it would be intersting to see how much we could reduce traffice on network, by dedupe on client side...

I am trying to find out why I have a Green S on the Tape Slot Number.. I am trying to restore data that is only on this tape I can intentory it just fine and it runs the catalog to almost the end then it stops and I get an error code..
I have followed every tech suggestion on Symantec that I can find and nothing seems to work.. Any advice would be appreciated...

I have some very important data which was backup by windows 2003 base NTBACKUP.
When I insert TAPE and do INVENTORY and CATALOGUE, I can see this.

Which means BE have recognized it, but I see no folders in backup set for restore, like this.
I also see this message.

Hi, I have this error only when I try to restore mailbox items only to specific mailbox database. Mailboxes from another database backup copies restore normaly.
And when I check credentials - Check Failed with only this mailboxdatabase.
Any Idea?
We're in the process of working out kinks in our backup process and have come up with some questions related to backing up Enterprise Vault. I've reviewed the Admin guide for BE 2014 with regard to EV; however, I want to confirm the process is the same in a virtual environment.
We have a single EV application VM (EV1) with databases stored on a separate SQL Server VM (SQL1) that also holds several other databases. Based on the admin guide, it's not clear whether a Hyper V backup will properly handle the EV application and databases. Can we stick to a Hyper V backup, or do we need to configure Windows agent-based backups for EV1 and SQL1 along with a EV Agent backup of the application? If we have to go the agent route, my understanding is that we are still covered under the V-Ray licensing?
Any tips on how to streamline backups for this environment? Gotchas I should be on the lookout for?
I recently upgraded from Backup Exec 2010 R3 SP4 to Backup Exec 2014.
My job rate against a remote server (backing up the virtual machines) was 4500mb/min. Since installing Backup Exec 2014; it's dropped to 3500mb/min.
This has also reproduced on other jobs as well.
Has anyone experienced this problem also? Is there a solution?

I am using Exchange 2010 SP1 and Backup Exec 2012 SP4. Since day one Backup Exec was able to back up mail databases without any problem.
Couple weeks ago, I added a new mail database to a total of 5 mail databases and a public folder database in Exchange Management Console. Because I was using the Standard version of Exchange I had to dismount one of the original mail databases. After this change, Backup Exec started to generate "Cmdlet failed. Cmdlet Get-PublicFolderDatabase, parameters {Identity=XXX, Status=True} for all the mail databases for full and incremental backups.
Last week, I removed the dismounted mail database from EMC, so the list is back to a total of 4 mail databases and a public folder database. The same day, both full and incremental backup jobs were able to complete successfully.
I hope the above would be helpful for those having the same issues.

We are still using Backup Exec 8.6 on Windows 2000 for certain application. The Job engine service stop whenever we launch the BE console recently. I can't get any solution from existing forum. Can anyone porvide any solution?

after change userrights on ndmp volume we have a problem with the incremental backup. The full backup job works fine, the incremtal backup saves everyday a full backup too. We have two backup jobs. The full backup with delete archiv bit, and the inkremental backup with backup changes, and reset archiv bit.
Only the volumes, where are no changes in the security tab, saves the backup correctly.
Has anyone a solution for this problem?

i noticed this option were removed in BE2012 and wonder how do we view the media according to the backup image for restoration now? There were suggestion to run the media report in report tab but is there any other alternatives which is more effective and efficient?

I would like to restore a VMDK which was backed up by using BE2014 without GRT. Vmware Convertor is installed on my BE server. Although I fill all recommend fields (target vcenter name, datacenter, host, folder etc.) in restore wizard form, the next button is disabled, the wizard doesn't let me progress.
Am I missing something?

Does anyone else know the name of the licensed feature of vSphere that I need to be able to leverage AVVI? I suspect that it is not a seperate license itself, but rather one of the bundled features that is present within one or more of the vSphere licences. I have some iSCSI LUNs presented to a vSphere v5.x ESX cluster as VMFS datastores - and I'd like to backup the VMs on this array using AVVI to BE 2012.
My question is; are iSCSI LUNs supported as a source of data for BE 2012, or are only FC LUNs supported ?
BTW I have read other posts re not using teaming on the NICs that act as iSCSI initiators on the BE 2012 server - and so will implement MPIO round robin on those.

Actually I've posted the same question before while I was using BE2012 but I couldn't have got any solutions although I opened a case to Symantec. I have a BE2014 server and the same problem is exist.
The problem is that client-side deduplication enabled jobs for remote servers can not be completed. The job is terminated 8-9 minutes later with the following error message:
| Backup- \\REMOTESERVER01.mydomain.com\D:V-79-57344-33861 - The media operation was terminated by the user. Storage device "P2000-Backup-Storage:4" reported an error on a request to write a media location identifier (file mark). Error reported: A device attached to the system is not functioning. The same BE server can backup all other servers in the same subnet with the same configuration settings and as client-side deduplication enabled.
The same BE server can backup remote VMs without any problems but if I try backup a remote VM directly (not through Vcenter) the job can not be completed.
The storage is a HP P2000 DAS and dedicated as deduplication storage. The server is a HPDL370G7. The WAN link bandwidth is about 60-70 Mbit/s or higher...
I attached the debug log. Please take a look the ndmp connection erros.

We have a problem on Backup Exec 12.5 (with all hotfixes) installed on Windows Server 2008. All jobs shows "Sever Paused" status. BeUtility also shows 'Server Paused". When i go to Devices tab there is no option to unpause server. It shows "Paused" (greyed out). What should I do to fix it ??
