Data discovery allert: Backup Exec found 1 servers that do not have the Agent for Windows

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

Data discovery allert:

  • Backup Exec found 1 servers that do not have the Agent for Windows installed on them. The agent for Windows is required to back up the servers. Refer to...
  • For more insformation, see V-449-1334 on the Symantec Knowledge Base.

If program was so clever that it was able to find this kind of servers, why are these servers not listed with this allert....this kind of allerts are at least annoying. 

Article V-449-1334 can not be found by the link which is provided by allert. I can not find it  by searching the id manually either.

Page 574 of administrator guide tells how to add discovered windows targets without agents into BE2014.

Backup Exec 2012 - 0xe000fedf - A Failure Occured Reading an Object

Hi, 

I have an issue with Backup Exec 2012 the backup is failing with this error:

I have seen an article on the Symantec website which states this error is solved by giving the account that backup exec runs under full access to the C: drive. Backup Exec runs on the domain administrator account so this is not an issue.

BE 2010 TAPE on BE 2012

Hi Guys,

Becoming a frequent visitor here now.

Situation is we had an incident in May which destroyed our old backup server which was running BE 2010. We have since setup a new backup server running BE 2012. As it happens I need to do a restore from a tape created on BE 2010 via BE 2012.

I have managed to catalog the tape without any issues and I see the content that I want to restore however when I right click on the content all options are greyed out. Also I have noticed in the BE 2012 ribbon up top there is no restore option available when I am looking at the contents of the backup that I want to restore from.

Is what I am trying to do even possible? Have I missed a step somewhere? Any advice is very much appreciated.

Catalog question

I need a solution

We are currently not in need of restoring data however I wanted to step thru the process as we have recently redirected our backup jobs away from tape to a data domain array.  

I noticed when going to the Job Setup tab > New restore job and selecting a server/share I do not see any backups for certain jobs that I know ran successfully. I contacted Symantec who advised to run a catalog job on each of the B2D's - approx 36 per device. I now see the most recent backup job completed since the catalog job was run but do NOT see previous backup jobs. Upon calling back Symantec support the tech advised I run the command "catrebuild -r" which actually is not the correct command - should be "catrebuildindex -r".  

I would like to know when it is advised to run the caterebuildindex -r command and anything to be aware of when doing so.

Hi.

 

I got a Dell PowerEdge (BE2014 Media server) server and I plan to add a PowerVault MD 3 (Either MD3200i or MD3260i) series.

 

However, I don't see the array on HCL on the Disk Targets.

 

This is what I found on the HCL

 

"For this basic support, any device recognized and supported by the Windows platform should work with Backup Exec"

 

Can anyone tell me if these arrays are supported with GRT or deduplication ?

BEserver failed to start

I need a solution

Everything was working fine until several days ago I reboot server for some other reason, then I cannot start the Backup Exec because all the related services cannot be started, I checked the event viewer, here is the error message:

Faulting application beserver.exe, version 13.0.2896.129, time stamp 0x4cb3719e, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 6.0.6002.19034, time stamp 0x52f2ec86, exception code 0xe06d7363, fault offset 0x0003fd1e, process id 0x1438, application start time 0x01cfbb9ac58035e5.

Any idea or solution, this is really frustrated!!

GRT Restore from HP StoreOnce Catalyst Store - Backup Exec 2012

Hello,

we are using Backup Exec 2012 with a HP StoreOnce (VSA) Catalyst Store as backup target. We are backing up virtual machines (VMWare) using the GRT option.

When we try to restore a single file, Backup Exec starts staging the entire VM instead of restoring the file directly like it does when restoring from a Backup2Disk folder. It also starts staging when we try to restore an Exchange item from a remote agent backup.

It seems that the Catalyst Store has the same behavior like a tape drive.

 

Is this a normal behavior?

Oracle Backup & Restore using Backup Exec 2012

Hi,

i'm new to Backup Exec and don't know if my issues are related to missing knowledge, misconfiguration or incompatibilities of the systems.

I have configured Backup Exec to take Backups of my Oracle Instance and then i tested the recovery process.

In more detail this means, backup of a single Tablespace (Backup job successful), change of some data (Records) on oracle and recovery (Recovery job Successful) of such tablespace.

My issue is:

Performing the recovery of such tablespace does not recover any data (The data still remain as after change).

I have testet such thing using online Backups with Oracle in Archivelog mode and offline Backups while Oracle was not in Archivelog mode.

Environment: (all server installed on VMware servers)

* Symantec Backup Exec 2012   14.0 Rev. 1798 64bit      on Server 2008 R2

* Oracle 11g (11.2.0.1.0)                                                 on SLES 11 (64 bit)

* Ralus client (1798.1373.0)

Error Backup servidor Lotus Notes Backup Exec 2010

Buenos días.

Tengo un servidor donde esta instalado Backup Exec 2010. Respalda al propio servidor y a otro servidor (de Lotus Notes) (backup,s siempre completos) donde está instalado el agente remoto correspondiente.

De manera aleatoria (unos días si, otros no)me fallan los backup,s del servidor de Lotus con el siguiente mensaje:

Está habilitado el acceso circular para la partición %. Cuando está habilitado el acceso circular, no es posible efectuar copias de seguridad de registro de transacciones Domino y son limitadas las opciones de recuperación. Tampoco es posible hacer una restauración de un momento concreto.

BE2010 DLO: How to remove excluded backupdata from SQL database?

Hello,

Backup Exec 2010 R2 on Windows 2003 Server / SQL Server 2005.

We have removed certain filetype from backups by adding that filetype into the global excludes list.
We know that it should be safe to delete the remaining files from backups manually without breaking the SQL database.
The problem is: These excluded files are still located in SQL database and they do not seem to disappear at all,
and files have been excluded for several months now.

Is it possible to remove these files from Database or compress/reset or re-create the database somehow?
if it is possible, what is the safest recommended method?

How Much Server for Backup Exec 2014

I had opened a question about getting back into BE a while ago and found out I needed Windows 2012 Server since I may want to backup my 2012 DC.

I also purchased VMWare vSphere Essentials so I could backup VMWare servers. I received a quote from Symantec for the following:

I have been backing upt to disk (30 minute incremental, full twice daily) using DPM 2007 to an HP MSA20 and weekly to tape to LTO4 for offsite a little less than 1TB.  I of course expect that to grow.

 

Anyway here is my first question:  How much server do I need for this operation?  I am looking at an HP DL 360p Gen 8, but not certain of CPU, RAM or hard drive space on server.  (I am pretty much tied to a rack mounted Proliant.)

My second question:  Do I go with Windows 2012 Standard or Windows 2012 R2 for the server OS?

And finally:  Currently using U320 SCSI LVD to connect to my Quantum LTO 4 Tape and my HP MSA20, so will need two SCSI connectors in the server.  Can I continue as before or do I need to reconsider disk and tape backups?

Hello Everyone,

I'm in charge of two Windows Server 2012 machines and need a new backup solution.

I'm looking at Backup Exec, but I'm a bit confused by how it works. My questions specifically are:

- Does it create incremental files ?

- If so, can they be consolidated ?

- Does this cost extra? Or is it only available in a certain version of Backup Exec?)

Hi all,

I have a HP 1/8 G2 LTO-5 3000 SAS Autoloader to perform data backup to tape from a server running Windows 2008 R2. The server was installed with Symantec Backup Exec 2012 and linked to the autoloader. I want to know exactly what needs to be done on the BE2012 when I need to replace the tape cartridges in the autoloader. I know how to remove the magazine to replace the tape cartridge but I wasn't exactly sure what needs to be done on the BE2012.

I  am using  Symnatec Backup Exec 2012   in our  environment   i have   3 hard  drive   A B  C   3 Tera each   i  want   to recycle   my  backup  when  my hard drive  is full automatically   in Symantec Back up Exec  2012    Can i   use  this option .

Hallo,

ich verwende Backupexec 12.5 und sichere auf ein NAS. Auf dem NAS habe ich 4 Ordner erstellt. Ich möchte 4 Richtlinien erstellen die abwechselnd alle 4 Wochen eine Sicherung in einen der 4 Ordner machen. Die Planung des Fullbackup für Freitag lässt sich über die Planungsfunktion Tagintervall erstellen, indem ich alle 28 Tage festlege und den ersten gewünschten Freitag auswähle. Aber wie kann ich definieren, dass das inkrementelle Backup von Montag bis Donnerstag alle 4 Wochen ausgeführt wird?

Ist das umsetzbar?

planning incremental backups

Hello,

i want to plan a Backupjob for Fullbackup and incremental backups that alternate every 4 weeks. I have 4 Jobs which perform a Backup-to-Disk backup on 4 different folders. I could plan the fullback by planning the backup to be run every 28 days. But how can i plan the incremental Backups from Monday to Thursday to run every 4 weeks?

Jobs "On Hold" still run, BE 2014 14.1 Rev.1786

I need a solution

We moved to BE 2014, mainly to have the option to include all of our servers in a single backup job. I created the new job, submitted it, and placed all of our other scheduled jobs on hold. Now the new job is running, however all of our other jobs, though on hold, still run as well. I am seeing in the job history that these jobs have run since being placed on hold, and I go into the "jobs" tab and verify their status is "On Hold", and if I right-click on them, "Hold" is checked. What gives? The only thing I can think of is that our new job had possibly started before all of the other jobs were placed on hold. Do I actually have to wait until this new job is complete before the others will actually go "On Hold?"

after migration two server's

Hi all,

we are running BE 2010 R2 under Server 2003.

Unfortunatly the server is broken now. So I have to migrade to a new one with Server 2008R2.

I done it this way: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH129826

First time i have migarte it to a server with different name and ip and now i migrated it to the server with exactly the same name and ip as the old one.

In both cases i see in the section devices 2x servers with my library and tapes devices.

One with monitor symbol and one me tape symbol in the left corner of the tower symbol. see the screenshot.

Is the any possibility to remove one of them? if yes which one?

Backup exec 2012 job fails as soon as an external drive is plugged in

Hi Everyone,

Currently running Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter with Backup Exec 2012 Version 14.0 Rev. 1798.

Backup exec 2012 is set up correctly and the jobs will complete successfully, however, without making any changes to Backup exec, when i plug in an external drive jobs won't start and current jobs will fail immediately.

 

Has anyone encountered this issue before? If you have, is there a patch to resolve this issue?
