we have a tape library and I have an issue with one of our tapes. this tape containe some data from 2 years ago, and I want to read the data that is on it, but in the property of the tape I can see that is offline, I did run an inventory on the tape but still says offline. any idea why this heppening?

When i run a full backup on BE12 of my Management information system, i get the following errors
V-79-57344-893 - Snapshot Technology: Initialization failure on: "SIMSSRV.school.local\SIMS2008". Snapshot technology used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
Snapshot technology error (0xE000037D): An attempt to connect to SQL Server has failed. The logon account may have invalid credentials, or the logon account may have been applied to the wrong resource.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.
I have checked the credentials and they come through fine on the tests. I dont know what i can try.
Any ideas?

I try to restore just one mail (single mail GRT backup is ok ) but I have the error message: restore server name (display the cluster name) Agent name not found on mail server.
We have a mail server and cluster for the mailbox, i see there is the option backupexe restore job:
MS exchange with the redirection with 2 option : ( this is the solution? )
option 1 - exchange database records redirect and option 2 - mailboxes order public folder redirect

Restore only one mail for a mailbox :
- option 1 : \ \ server name exchange instead of cluster-mail ?
- option 2 : mailbox name ?
- or both ?
I need some info how it works
before the setting mailbox cluster (only exchange mail server) restore single mail it always works

I'm running some manual disk-to-tape duplication jobs, but I don't see the option "do not run verify" on the duplicate settings. ¿Is there any way to avoid verification process from duplicate job? (Yes, yes, I know... "Symantec recommends verification...").

If I setup a new 2012 in my environment, can I join this 2012 to the 2010 CASO?
for the new 2012 CASO, Is there any HA? or can I have a primary CASO and a secondary CASO so that the CASOs can be reboot when backup is running?
We have exchange 2010 SP2 installed and working properly with DAG configrations. we are taking Full backup of the exchange database. for that past 1 month the schedule backup job got failed alternative days. we find the below error for the particular Exchange DB.
v-79-57344-759- Unable to completed the operation for the selected resource using the specified options for the following reason:
VFF open Failure. This can be caused by low memory or disk resources.
But in the Job history i found the that particular DB Status was Completed. and one Error : e0008445 - The media operation was terminated by the user.
We are dailly taking the backup of Sharepoint 2010, Exchange 2010 & System state backup in one job.
we have logged the case also regarding this issue, but we have got the proper support , kindly any one help on the above issue is appreciated.

We are currently in the process of reviewing BackupExec2012 as we are running BE 2010 R3 my question doesnt really revolve around the version its more to do with synthetic backups. Our synthetics are run via a D2D backup policy
I understand that you run a baseline backup, then run incrementals that refernce the baseline, at the end of the week we run a full synthetic backup, my question is what the full synthetic does. Below is an example of what i am trying to understand
Disk 1 - Baseline backups
Disk 2 - Daily Incrementals that reference the baseline
Disk 3 - Synthetic Full backups
If there is a synthetic full backup run does it duplicate the baseline data or does it reference it and only put the data that is new from the incrementals and that synthetic full onto disk 3 or does it create a new full backup that replaces the baseline?
Any help would be greatful

Backup Exec 2010 R3 V13.0 Rev. 5204, all current updates.
Backing up to a Quantum DLT-V4 on a LSI Ultra 320 adapter
Issue 1 :-
Backups Keep failing with "Final error: 0xe00084ec - A backup storage read/write error has occurred."
Tape drive changed, tapes changed, controller changed.
We even supplied a new server with all new equipment / tapes and swapped the drives over into the new server and still getting same error. BE has been uninstalled and reinstalled but to no avail.
Tapes check out fine with Xtalk when testing every time.
Issue 2 :-
Backups Fail with "Final error: 0xe0000391 - Backup Exec attempted to back up an Exchange database according to the job settings. The database was not found, however. Update the selection list and run the job again."

Our company bulid up a backup exec 2012 trial version (14.0 64bit) in a windows server 2008 r2 for testing , if the processing is smooth , It will buy the license after.
Our tape drive is use HP LTO Ultrium-5 , and LTO-5 data cartridge(3TB compression capacity)
New we have a problem is the backup exec 2012 console display the tape storage is 35.6GB capacity.
Could you let us know , how can fix the problem , is it trial version has a limit ? or drive need to update ?

As the post says, im trying to find out how backup exec 2012 reuse disk space once backups have expired?
I have almost run out of room on my server disks. i have set expiry dates for retention which tick over tonight at 12am. Does backup exec delete the old backups once the expiry date has passed?

I just setup a job which I will run manually once a month to backup data to a B2D folder on our network.
I need a job to run immediately after that job finishes which will duplicate the B2D media to a tape in the SDLT tape drive physically connected to this media server, so the tape can go offsite.
However, when I attempt to create this job by clicking "New job to duplicate backup sets", and choose "Duplicate backup sets following a job", I am not permitted to select the new Monthly job I created as a Source Job.
What am I doing wrong?
Backup Exec 2012 remote agent running on Windows Server 2008 R2. Full and incremental updates end with an exception with the following error:

VSS Snapshot warning. File c:\program files (x86)\symantec\backup exec system recovery\shared\drivers\symsnapservicex64.exe is not present on the snapshot.
I've found some solutions for BUE 2010 but not 2012. Any suggestions on how to fix this? All updates have been applied. Thanks in advance.

This is not a new topic and the main reason that there was such an uproar about this new version. Unfortunately we purchased hardware that forced us to upgrade. Now I have upgraded and conncetivity seems to be fine and all my existing jobs are defined. Tonight the backups will run but I have no idea what will happen.
I have 20 servers defined to be backed up. My fear is that each one will attempt to back up to a new tape. I want all servers to back up to a single tape. What is the designed solution that symantec has for this? This is such a simple backup concept and I am finding it difficult to manage. I am hoping that it is just because I am not used to the new interface and not that the functionality has been left out of the product.

I think I have finally gotten used to Backup Exec 2012's idea of organizing everything per server (not that I like it much or don't have a need for multi-server backups to keep application state consistent...)
However, I have a number of backups from different servers that I have all set to start at 8:30 PM every weekday (incremental). All backup jobs are set to use the same media set.
Yet, the first job that runs uses a tape (overwrite from two weeks ago) but the second, third, etc. job run on a second tape. I fail to understand why that is happening. I would appreciate any pointers,
