Exchange backup exec Job Sometimes Failed due to VSS and Sometimes succeeded , Without any solution.

Dears ,

We backup DAG exchange server 2010  Using backup exec 2010 R3 and updated With SP2  and  recent Hotfixes

The backup job backup the passive copy of the database .

 

The backup job is unstable , Sometime Succeeded and simetime failed with the following error related to VSS

  1. Exchange VSS Writer (instance b7912ba8-f300-417b-95ee-a42c19ec93e1:10) failed with error code -2403 when preparing for Snapshot.
  2. Exchange VSS Writer (instance b7912ba8-f300-417b-95ee-a42c19ec93e1:10) failed with error code 1295 when processing the post-snapshot event.
  3. Exchange VSS Writer (instance b7912ba8-f300-417b-95ee-a42c19ec93e1:10) failed with error code 1295 when processing the backup completion event.
  4. Exchange VSS Writer (instance 0ffb1558-aae8-4c1e-b49e-a81b72e392b1:10) failed with error code -2403 when preparing for Snapshot.
  5. Information Store (14908) Shadow copy instance 10 aborted.

 

We reboot the servers that are members of DAG but the job is still  unstable.

I hope to provide me with your ideas Why that happen ?

Hallo,

ich habe ein Adaptec Raid-Controller mit 2 SATA Platten und eine NAS sowie einen WIndows 2008 Std. Server

Wenn ich BE starte (die Console), piebst sorfort der Raid-Controller und im Storage-Manager sehe ich, daß das Raid auf rebuild läuft.

Das ganz ist aber erst seit kurzem und hat bis jetzt ohne Fehler funktioniert.

SInd so Verhalten bekannt?

Sauvegarde exchange sous une VM

bonjour,

la messagerie exchange est sous une machine virtuelle , et pour la sauvegarde on sauvegarde tout la machine , ma question est la suivante lors de lancement le travail de sauvegarde (sauvegarde la VM a chaud) : de 1 un message d'erreur "The job failed with the following error: An attempt to take a snapshot of a virtual machine failed because it was unable to quiesce an application"    et de 2  la base exchange down  et a ce jour la base toujours down;

comment on peut résoudre ce problème

BEWS 2012 Media Overwrite

Hi Forumers,

I created a media set 3 Years Media Set (3 years retention) using stand alone tape drive. After the first successfull backup (full) written to the tape media the second backup that supposedly run and write also to the same media however it is prompting that the media is not overwritable.

 

Does this mean that everytime the backup run it will ask you to overwrite the tape media?

How can I configure the overwrite options using the same tape media?

How to schedule backup jobs using the same media without asking overwrite the tape media?

I need a solution

 

Hello, I need your help with following error!
I have errors with two jobs: Directory "Name of directory" was not found, or could not be accessed.
I have two jobs that was made by a policy. And they always have faild status.
I don't want to backup this directory, and i have unmarked this folder from the selection list. Even more I've added this folder to Include/Exclude.
But problem is still remains. Jobs trying to backup this folder and fails.

Image Level backup of Physical server ( Windows & Linux ) in Backup Exec 2012 & Netbackup 7.5

  This is sanjay. One of our customer has following requirment.

 Is it possible to take image level backup of physical server ( windows & Linux )  using Backup Exec 2012 & Netbackup 7.5. If yes then is it possible to restore single file ( Granular Recovery ) from that  backup image.

I require Help on this.

Hello, I wish to discuss Back-up Exec 2012

What have Symantec Done?  I have been an avid supporter of Symantec for over ten years; Back-up Exec 2012 is bringing this into question.  We can see what Symantec maybe trying to achieve but it has increased our work load and proved more difficult to manage.

The problem areas we have are:

  • The configuring of individual server back-ups as opposed to individual jobs is time consuming whenever a change is required!

Are you able to provide reasoning for this change and how it is meant to improve the product?

 

  • Overwrite protection

Overwrite protection selections are only effective if your media is not over-writeable.  It would appear that even though you can allocate media to a Media Set, if the media (even though allocated) becomes over-writable, Back-up Exec may steal that media regardless if it is not the configured Media Set to utilise.   Why then do we make the effort to create Media Sets?

Allocated Media; this it seems is media that IS NOT in an over-writable state. Once the media is over-writable it is deemed as recyclable media, and although it is in a media set, any job may reallocate it to any other media set. This means, the Storage overwrite protection settings do not allow you to enforce media to be kept in the allocated media set. Therefore, why have it!  The three settings in operation, achieve the same outcome.

Even selecting “Prompt before overwriting Allocated Media” will provide no assistance as once your media is over-writable it is no longer allocated. 

What would be the likelihood of a modification being made to Back-up Exec to provide a selection that protects Allocated Media?  Therefore, if the media is not over-writable, and there is no scratch media, then fail the job, like the old days.

In regard to the overwrite protection support have suggested partitioning, this will not work for us!

 

  • Tape libraries

If you have two tape drives and the first tape drive fails all back-ups are suspended and fail.  Why is Back-up Exec smart enough to move on?

Synthetic Backups

Hi,

 

I raised a forum discussion the other day regarding synthetic backups and how they use the baseline as a reference, i was advised that a baseline backup that is run at the beginning is made redundant when subsequent incrementals and then a synthetic full are run as this takes the place of the original baseline. I have done a test on this and found that this isnt accurate can some clarify, what i have done is listed below

 

We have multiple D2D folders

 

In my example the baseline was written to D2D1

Baseline run

Incrementals x5 were run

Synthetic Full was run to D2D 8

I then disabled the D2D1 to make sure it didnt reference the original baseline.

This caused the job to pause as it couldnt reference D2D 1

 

This to me means that you have to keep the original baseline for future synthetic backups and if needs be the restore can someone just confirm?

Tape usage in tape library!

Hi All,

I am new to tape library, so i have couple of questions, hopefully you can give me a hint.

I have a tape library of 24slots and use backup exec 2012, if i create 3 media sets:

  • Daily : OPP : 4 weeks, AP: 5 days
  • Weekly: OPP : 4 weeks, AP: 5 days
  • Monthly: OPP : not overwrite, AP: 5 days

All tapes are in "scratch" media set

My questions is: Daily job runs on Monday, it will pick up one tape, tape1 for example, from Scratch. Because Daily media set has AP set to 5 days, therefore it is appendalbe for whole week but not overwrited for another 4 weeks. So will Daily job run on Tuesday append data to the tape used on Monday ? Or will it pick another from scratch ?

a) 2 agent for linux

or

b) 2 agent for for remote media for linux

Poor performance during duplicate job

Hi,

i'm running Backup Exec 2010 R2 on a Dell R510 with 12x 2TB as a RAID5 and a TL4000. The idea was to do backups to disk and then copy them over to LTO5 tapes. my problem is that the copy performance is really poor and far away from what is possible.

Backup of Exchange 2010 with three databases runs with a rate of 2.2GB/min and takes about 9 hours for 1.2TB.

Duplicate of this set runs with a rate from 1.1GB/min to 1.5GB/min and takes 16 hours, sometimes even 20 hours. sure it's more the obvious that it's hard to get a exchange backup and two copies to tape for on site and off site storage.

I'm pretty sure that the hardware is not the problem. i did some tests backing up data to tape from the disk where the backup2disk folders are located. it turned out that the server is able to write to tape a little bit more than 10GB/min.

how comes that a duplicate job with the same source and destination has such a big difference in job rate?

Checking space required on tape

I need a solution

Hey All..

I am looking into getting a BUE Remote Agent for Windows server to have a Win2k8 server backup to tape. This may sound simple or dumb but how do I find out if I have enough storage space left on the tape? 

When I look at the byte count on the Job Monitor it states in the region of  1,550,400,789,647 but if I were to do a right click on Media Label > Properties > Statistics tab, I can see total cap = 745GB / used cap = 402GB / available cap = 343 GB with compression ratio 3.63:1. So which one should I look at?

I am using HP 1.6TB LTO 4 (C7974A) tapes at the moment hence I just wanted to know if that's sufficient space to have add another server to the tape or do I need bigger space (3TB LTO5 etc) to accomodate?

Habe folgendes Problem bei der SDR - Erstellung: die Meldung lautet

Beim Erstellen des SDR Datenrägers und dem letzten Vorgang in der Abfolge erscheint eine Meldung und der Vorgang wird abgebrochen.

Error 1: Fehler beim Kopieren von Datei <C:\Users\xxxx\Appdata\Local\temp\2\CustomSDRD1\AMD64\Shell\About.bmp> nach

<C:\Users\xxxx\Appdata\Local\temp\2\CustomSDRD1\MOUNTBOOT\Shell\About.bmp>

Systemfehlermeldung: Das Ressourcenladeprogramm konnte die MUI-Datei nicht finden

sowie ein ähnlicher weiterer Fehler. Das Verzeichnis "MOUNTBOOT" ist leer.

Löschen der temporären Verzeichnisse des Benutzers hat nicht geholfen.

Hat noch jemand ähnliche Probleme mit der SDR-Erstellung ?

We are preparing for an upcoming server replacement and want to backup a  DC server over the wire to a member server designated as a dedicated backup server located in another building. The backups will be to file.

The DC has BackupExec on it but the member server does not - so I gues what I am asking  - can I "push" a backup of data across rather than "pull" ?

We are running Backup Exec 2010 R3 to backup Exchange 2010 mailboxes using GRT.  One of our users deleted his Inbox rules and wants those recovered.  Is that possible to do since the rules are stored in some special table within the mailbox ?

Replacing tapes when tape loader has used all available tapes

Hi

 

I have a server with BE12 which backs up all my server on the network. Once a full backup is complete the job is then sent to the tape loader for duplication. The tape loader has the capacity for 24 tapes. my question is, when all the tapes have been used and a backup job is requesting to insert new media, how can i insert the new media and label it without having to cancel the job to run an inventory? i label my tapes as followes

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9

1a,2a,3a,4a,5a,6a,

1b,2b,3b,4b,5b,6b

If i insert the scratch media as is, the job continues but labels the tape with a random name. now if i try to label the tape once the job is done it says it will clear the tape of all its contents.

 

whats the best practise for this?

BE 2012 MS-Exchange empty backup

Hi All,

We had successfull backup of MS-Exchange, however upon checking the content of the backup some the Information Store the size was empty showing only the Infromation store database folder. This kind of issue is unusual because the backup was successful without any errors.

Appreciate any help on this kind of issue...

I raised a case to Symantec support according to Support it is by design and normal that sometimes that it showed the sizes and sometimes it showed 0

Trial Version of BE2012 support tape library backup multiple jobs in two drives??

Dear bor/sis,

Our seniario Our scenario:

One HP Tape Library with 2 drives

One HP Server

One SAN Switch

 

Now I am using the SAN Switch connected between Tape Library with 2 drives and Server via fiber channel. I got the 2 problem in my farm.

  1. I cannot run the backup job in the second tape drive, but when I click the inventory that the 2 tape drives can mount media in the tape drives. When I try to run 2 backup job, only 1 job can be backup, other one prompt the warning message “Please insert overwritable media” I don’t know why the message will show on the second job, since 2 media is set to the same media set.
  2. Backup exec 2010 upgrade to Backup exec 2012, after upgrading the BE2012, I cannot backup the Exchange DAG Database, I try to run the credential test, but it show “test failed”, I don’t know why I am using the same account to upgrade the system will show this result and cannot backup.

Please help me !!

B2D files inconsistent

Hi,

I'm having problems with B2D files. Duplicate job that is copying them to tape is failing with errors;

 

Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe00084ca - The data being read from the media is inconsistent.
Final error category: Backup Media Errors

Windows log has this error;

 

An error occurred while processing a B2D command.
 Drive: ReadFMTable() SFMB Not Found (\\dl-storage01\BackupStore1\Sve\SVE-Weekly-06-Saturday-new\B2D001225.bkf).  Error=13 

 

I have isolated specific B2D files and when i try to catalog the file i get the same error.

One more thing i have noticed is that file has available capacity reported as "-10,240" Bytes.

I have tried to create new b2d folder but with the same results.

 

Any ideas are welcome.
